There are two airports in the Central Valley: the country’s largest, Juan Santamaría International Airport, and a smaller, domestic airport which offers flights to remote parts of the country. Juan Santamaría provides daily flights to many North American cities, with other regular flights to parts of Central and South America. There are not yet any direct flights to Europe from San José now that Air Madrid has stopped flying. Though the Costa Rican Tourism Board has been trying to attract more European flights, so far they have been unsuccessful. Martin Air, a subsidiary of the Netherland’s KLM flies from Amsterdam to San José but it connects through the U.S. The Juan Santamaría airport also serves the domestic airline Sansa, which flies to most airstrips in the country and also has a regular flight to Panamá’s Bocas del Toro, Panamá City and David.
The domestic airport, operated by Costa Rica’s other domestic airline Nature Air, is located in Pavas. Like Sansa, it flies to most airstrips in the country and also has flights to Bocas del Toro.
